Our Housing Unit consists of several staff attorneys who focus on our Housing Court Mediation Project, eviction related litigation, public housing and housing subsidy administrative advocacy and litigation, community economic development and affordable housing preservation. We also focus on legal services to the homeless population and community legal education. NLS prides itself on its innovative and aggressive housing advocacy. Recent litigation includes subsidized housing cases decided by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court and class action litigation involving housing displacement and relocation. Job requirements include 3-5 years of litigation experience, experience in landlord-tenant law, strong analytical, interviewing, organizational, writing and oral presentation skills, and the ability to relate well to clients and client groups. Experience working with diverse low income populations is strongly preferred. Other relevant experience includes motion and trial practice, administrative hearings, and policy advocacy.
